The Ladies In White

Today I join the call to action by Gloria Estefan to support the Ladies In White, who are true heroines of our time, exemplars of female courage and victims of the repression and violation of human rights in Cuba. I hope that this rising up for the freedom of all political prisoners and respect for human rights will reach the very heart of all the tyrants and that above all, plants seeds of liberty in all the young people of the world, because it is us who justice depends on.

Response to Cuba

The reason I wrote what I did is becase a person from a country that essentially provides very little to its people is not in a position to criticize Cuba. No child in Cuba will ever die of starvation! Can you say that about Columbia, or other Latin American countries - or countries around the world? Do not believe that Cubans are living in a prison. That is simply not true. When I am in Cuba, I am with people who are dancing, singing, out in the streets - happy people. It is true, Cubans face problems everyday - mainly because of the US blockade that has made life so difficult, but they are not living a life like people portray. 25% of the population in Cuba were illiterate before the Cuban Revolution. Now, they are among the most highly educated in the world!!! Cuba has one of the world's highest doctor to patient ration rates in the world! People do not have better opportunities in Colombia unless they are rich! The poor are left to fight for themselves! This is what repression and a violation of human rights looks like! Not Cuba! As for las damas del blanco, their husbands were sponsored by Cuban American terrorists groups in Miami. Remember that what you see on tv is US media that only shows their bias reports on Cuba. I love Cuba dearly, and I love the Cuban people even more. I am a supporter of the Revolution, and will die a supporter. I just wish that people could open their eyes, educate themselves, and learn what the Cuban Revolution is really about.

I am really sorry but why you critized someone who want just help? In my country was same situation for 40 years and yes you are right. People here had work, had children who can go to school, had food..but they live in cage. They can´t Live. They could not say anythnig, haven´t freedom, they must quietly sit on their chairs and do nothing. If you were if you were unlovable hand immediately going to jail, I do not know what it is now in Cuba and in what situation you are, but certainly Damas de Blanco are brave ladies that at least some fight for their happiness. Colombia is not the best at it, but it certainly is better than all communistic countries in the world, led by Cuba, and only because, for example, that the Colombians can believe in a better future, where you can change something at least a year, do you see for example Shaki's Foundation for Cuba is, unfortunately, "in perpetuity". Communism is the only and only opium of the mankind! I just want for your country all the best and I respect your opinion but i really don´t understand why you critized Shakira. She just express her opinion, if it was negative I understand it, but she just wants for all the people in Cuba, all the best like me, what is wrong with that?

Cuba Libre

Dear Shakira, It is unfortunate that you write abot the "repression and violation of human rights in Cuba" when you yourself are from a country (Columbia) that oppresses its people. The US backed country that you come from does not provide its citizens with free health care or education, and infested with drug cartels. A Cuban child has a better standard of living than a Columbian child, and even children in the United States who suffer from the effects of capitalism. Before you critize Cuba, take a look at the world around you - including your own country. Did you know that Cuba has had doctors working in Haiti for FREE for many years. Did Columbia send doctors? Did the US ever help? After the devastating earthquake, the US only helps Haiti for its own political reasons. I lived in Cuba and have spoken to the Cuban people myself. I have seen the benefits of socialism, and the down sides of it too. In a world where over 1/3 of the population lives in poverty, please do not criticize a third world nation who has done so much for its people despite being blockaded by the most powerful nation on earth.

Hola, Shakira Queria decir que yo soy super fan tuya desde que estaba en Cuba y me da mucho orgullo que le dediques unos minutos de tu tiempo a este tema. Yo estoy fuera de Cuba desde el 1996 y no es facil vivir fuera del pais de uno for las condiciones politicas. Un beso y felicidades, todo lo que haces es increible, te admiro mucho.

Viva Cuba Libre!

I have been a very strong anti-Casto ever since I can remmember. The revolution was the worst thing to ever happen to Cuba and it's people. The Ladies in White have my full support and I want to thank you Shalira for standing by them. This movment will be one of meny. I hope it will bering change to the beautiful island of Cuba and give it the spark of a true revolution that is filled with hope and peace. The Cuba as we know it will die and a new will take it's place. Wish my grandfather and grandmother was still alive to see this.

No one in the world, it has suppressed earned or bullied. I think it's good that at least some people, like you,work to ensure. You have my full respect and I admire you because of your 150 IQ I wish you a good residence in Salzburg and a super performance of Gypsy. Greedings Daniel
