Simply amazing (and ignorant of facts)
All this talk about rights, such as the freedom of speech. Sure, you have a right to say what you want, no matter how stupid and uninformed it makes you look.
Why would anyone care what some singer has to say about the law? It would be nice if she actually read the law before condemning it.
The facts are that this law changes almost nothing. It does not change the powers granted to law enforcement. Additionally, local law enforcement has been inquiring into peoples lawful status for many, many years. No issue then. The federal government even started a program to train and certify local law enforcement to perform the duties of an immigration officer and to determine one's lawful status. This has been in place since 1996 and AZ agencies participate. No issue with that.
People who oppose this are all up in arms because such "experts' as Shakira or Ricky Martin say it's racist? How much of a fool does that make you look like?
This law has nothing to do with immigrants, it has to do with illegal aliens. Immigrants move her in order to become citizens of this country and assimilate into our culture. They are welcome. Those that sneak across the border in violation of our laws, who commit ID theft with stolen or fake documents, who take jobs to ship money back to their country, who tax the school, medical, justice and welfare systems of local and state government, they are not immigrants and are not welcome. Come to this country as a registered migrant worker, or immigrate to this country to become a citizen, just have the respect to follow our laws.
This law tells AZ law enforcement to enforce the law. What? It's illegal to be an illegal alien? Please, educate yourselves, don't look like a fool, like Shakira.

The problem with this New Law SB 1070 is that it will create more crime do to the fact that people will not want to report crimes because of the fear to the police, I don't understand why people don't get it. Everyone including citizens should be concern that if your house or car is being robed, if you are being robed on the street, and the only person who is watching it is an immigrant they will not want to act by calling the police because of fear to be questioned, If an immigrant woman or teen is raped, they would not want to call the police because of the same fear. There are about 14,500 registered sex offenders in the State of Arizona of different nationalities (most US citizens), and they will sure target people who they know cannot do anything about it. I care what this can do to the rest of the citizens, I think everyone should. And for the people that are claiming that you enter legally after so many years paying $400 dollars. Well that is because you were not by the border, I know for a fact that Mexicans cannot get into the US that easily, not even to visit. Many of my cousins in Mexico that are working as nurses, and have their carriers with degree in Mexico, cannot even get their visa to come visit here because it is rejected. So if you are a Colombian or whatever and are saying we should all wait till we get in as you, let me tell you it would take 50 times longer for someone closer to the border to get in legally. I'll tell you something, if this country was poor and I had no money to feed, dress and provide for my children, I would go anywhere possible to be able to work to support and feed my family. And so do everyone in the world, that is why so many immigrants migrate to this country from all over the world. So quit thinking about yourself everyone and how easy you had it in this life, think about the hunger and necessities that people are having and ask for an immigration reform so that all this immigrants that already live in the US can be legalized and they can have their license and pay for insurance and contribute to this country like all the rest of the citizens who's ancestors migrated to this country. There are many ways the border and cartels problems can be solved, but this is not one of them.

AGAINST SB 1070
Shakira is exactly RIGHT!
This SB 1070 law is insane, inhuman and violates the human and civil rights. We CANNOT let this happen AGAIN. Segregation because of your skin color is unconstitutional. This country was made from men and to ALL MEN not to some or "specific people" this country is FREE and for EVERYONE! The statue of liberty should stand for everyone or NOTHING!
Love you Shakira.

no easy answer
my comments are to compliment my mexican brothers and neighbors and then to tell them to get real, to get their own life and develop their own country like we worked so hard to develop ours, and without them.
i have never witnessed a more hard working non complaining people that would go to much further lengths than most nationalities would to survive and provide for their families. i sympathize with them for that reason, but NOTHING gives them license to go into any foreign country illegally and live free off of the system, then complain loudly when we do what we have to do to protect ourselves. they have no rights, they are illegal and only citizens have rights. i would not have the nerve to sneak into a country and then scream racism when i am not treated like i want to be. there is no easy fix here so somebodies feelings are going to get hurt and it should not be legal american citizens. illegals have no rights and they are acting like they do. if the shoe were on the other foot, i do not think the mexican officials would be so understanding. we also have to do something to protect these borders in a world that is out to kill americans.
in light of this new law, i think that police obuse should be taken on a case by case basis. we should wait and see if the fears are understandable. all cop cars have cameras now so they are not going to get away with much. if this thing gets out of control, even americans will not stand for seeing anyone abused by the cops,,,,anyone. but again there is no easy answer. cops dont have crystal balls or cannot be mind readers so they have to be trusted to distinguish between the good and the bad guys. many of them are good people doing a tough and dangerous job. they are not the bad guys and need to be first given the benefit of the doubt.
mexico is more to blame than america for its own problems. it has not troubled itself to develop and provide in country economics and industry to keep its own people at home and happy. it has been a country long before we even thought about being one. we cannot be blamed for being successful and a bright light on the other side of the border. america will welcome all legal attempts to enter the country and even work here. come on over, but do it by the law just like we do. i can go to jail for stealing around private property, but these guys are SNEAKING INTO A COUNTRY that muslims coincidentaly want to blow up. we have a problem and the mexicans helped make it. this obviously increases the importance of the borders. mexicans need to think hard about what this country has already done for them be happy that many of their families were kept afloat by hard earned american dollars. mexicans should choose the right battle, a battle that makes their own country a better and more lucrative place to live. it would give them more credibility in many peoples minds. god bless them and us. i wish we werent in this situation, but formost, illegal means illegal. fix that and we all are good.

Thank you.
Thank you to Shakira for lending her voice to those who have been silenced by oppressive immigration policies. The difficulties families in Arizona are now facing are great, and Shakira's support last week helped to give us hope. Shakira's dedication to humanitarian efforts and social justice clearly indicative of her broad, progressive worldview is an inspiration to those of us in the lucha in Arizona. I was in attendance at the Phoenix forum where Shakira listened empathetically to the effects of SB 1070 on hard-working individuals and immigrant victims of violent crimes. I, and many in our community, are grateful for Shakira's support, time, empathy, and kindness. Thank you.

Dear Shakira
Hello.
I just want to tell you my immigration story Shakira. My mom enter to the US in the 80s with working visa, later it was our turn..Shakira, it took 10 years for my brother and I to get out papers in the list then it was my sister 25 years in Colombia waiting and waiting. Finally we here we proudly pay our 400 dollars for our citizenship and 90 dollars for our fingerprints. We! Shakira did it the legal way and you know why because it was the right thing to do. Now I do feel bad for our illegals but like every country they need to respect the law,I have been everywhere in Europe and have family in Asia and you know what Shakira, immigrants over their respect the immigration laws including latinos,so why they can't respect the US law a law that has been always been a law for us the citizens with papers. You should look up the immigration laws in our countries specially mexico law and you should see how bad they are with the cubans looking for help. Every country has their laws and you as an artist should know that You will not enter Europe or Asia without proper papers. I know you are just trying to be nice..but you need to educate yourself with USA laws. We Americans Citizen are not against immigrants we are against illegals..and Human Rights doesn't have to do with anything what's happing now with AZ if it was a human right every country wouldn't have immigration laws. And Shakira, Illegal means AGAINST THE LAW.

Yo shaky
I signed up here just to say I disagree with you. I find the use of the media to promote yourself at the expense of the gullible public reprehensible.
Anything for a few sales right? Gross.
Arizona had it right folks. Support our nation. Support legal Americans. Defend America.

I love my country
I had only heard the name "Shakira" a few times up until this recent event. I am a supporter of enforcing immigration laws. I am a supporter of Arizona's decision to place the topic in the spotlight.
I disagree that the enforcement of immigration law can be regarded as racism. The Mexican element of illegal immigration is a proximity problem with the border of Mexico combined with untenable conditions inside the sovereign nation of Mexico.
People must not forget the existence of racism reinforced and revitalized often in the media. Be wary of the media coverage talking points and check the funding sources of the media. The media often skews information for consumption by a generally gullible populace.
My final point regard LaRaza and the Plan of San Diego. These concepts are far more racist than any of America's immigration laws. I don't care how angry you are or how brainwashed you are in your hatred of Americans. It quite simply does not matter. America possesses far superior defensive and offensive capabilities. LaRaza and the Plan of San Diego, if activated, will be short-lived ending in self destruction.
Join us legally. You cannot beat us.

Shakira, this isn't about racism.
1)SB1070 won't affect people because of your skin color. It will affect people due to their status of citizenship. 2)Read the law SB1070. It's very easy to read and it's only 17 pages long. 3)SB1070 responds to behavior, not race. 4)Don't compare this law to Nazi Germany, et al. as that has nothing to do with such horrors. You don't know what you are talking about.
When you make such a ridiculous comparison, you only trivialize such horrors.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShkpO9Rf1bo
The law isn't racist or anti-immigrant. It is anti-illegal immigrant. It doesn't even proactively look for illegal immigrants but only arrests them if they are caught acting suspiciously like being about to rob a bank. Shakira, I really enjoy listening to your music and would gladly spend the entire day just looking at you as you are that pleasing to look at. However this is a complicated matter and you really should read the law first before making judgments upon it. You should also do research on the law as well.
Frankly what are you achieving here anyway? You are angering some fans and beyond that nothing else. Please stay out of controversy, because your involvement is just a net bad.

Dear Shaki:
You have a right to speak your mind on whatever the topic. You are not just a doll that composes, sings and dances. You are a human being (and an intellectual) with views and beliefs. However, sometimes it is good to keep your views to yourself (since this is an Animal World-remember your song). Be strong and go forward. Your Latin American fans will never desert you. I live in NY but I am Dominican. We LOOOVEEEE YOUUUU remember that!!!

Has anybody asked Shakira if she is a US citizen? I hear all this comments judging her for speaking out against this new law and not being a citizen. Her father was born in the US, and she has lived in the US for many years, so it is possible that she has become a citizen. For many of you who don't know this, you can have a double citizenship, ex: you can be a citizen from Canada and the United States. So she may have a Colombian and US citizenship. So for all you have been commenting "Until you become a US citizen, you have no place to voice your opinion," have you asked her is she is a citizen? Maybe all of you should educate yourself first before posting this comments. Shakira has been living in this country for many years, she spends much of her time in this country, she cares because this is her country just like its mine and yours. So don't be rude and assume that this is not her country. What gives you the right to speak and not others? People in this country are so ignorant, the worst thing is that the majority of this people (supporting this law and posting this ignorant comments) are first or second generation of immigrants. I just cannot believe that people like this still exist, and here we though that the holocaust was over...

Shaki #1 Fan
After reading many of the comments, I got some things to say. When my family moved into the US, I was 8 years old, and we did not had papers, that is correct, we were immigrants. My parents worked so hard to support our family. My mother use to clear houses on the weekends for a little extra money. I remember my 2 older sisters and myself use to help my mother clean huge houses, and after a full day of all of us cleaning, my mother received $20 to $30. All the houses we cleaned were of white, rich people, who would took advantage because they knew we had no papers, and we were poor. It took 15 years for all of us just to obtain our residency, and we were an exception among millions. If we wouldn't of been able to obtain our residency, then my 2 sisters and my self wouldn't of been able to get a job after graduating from collage (which my parents had to pay because we didn't qualify for loans nor financial assistance). Many of the people that I went to collage with graduated and got their degrees, among them teachers, however they have not been able to get a job teaching or use their degree because they are still immigrants. So when I hear about a law like this one, it irritates me that they are making all the illegal immigrants look like criminals and rapist and drug-dealers. Not one time have any member from my family been arrested or in any type of trouble, along with my friends from collage. I do believe that the border should be reinforced because of the drug trafficking problem, and that something should be done about it, however myself like many others including Shakira do not agree that the new law will fix this issue, not only because it discriminates, but we believe it will not fix the problem in the contrary would make it a less safe place for everyone. Police should be there to prevent crime, domestic violence, robberies etc. With this new law the police will not be respected but feared. I hope there is a immigration reform soon, there are many that have been living here for many years and deserve to be respected and acknowledged. Anyone who does commit a crime, immigrant or not should be punished at the full stand of the law, however not all Mexicans (because this law targets Mexicans not just any immigrant) not all Mexicans are criminals like everyone is been saying. I don't believe people that were born here or that received their papers before moving to this country should judge immigrants the way they have. The life of an immigrant family is 100 times harder than theirs will ever be. Immigrant families cannot ask the government for help with food or healthcare, I don't care what many people are saying that immigrants come here to be on welfare, and use the system, maybe they should educate themselves before supporting this types of laws. Growing up we didn't qualify for food stamps, wic, healthcare (you better just not get sick) or any assistance, so if we were broke and had no food for dinner, than we looked forward for that house to clean, yet my parents continued to pay taxes. So don't judge Shakira for understanding this and trying to help, and don't judge immigrants. If you want something to be done, than maybe you should all start with asking the government to bring back the National Guard to patrol our borders, after all that is what the National Guard is supposed to be for.

Shakira is Right
Shakira is right. My parents are not citizens but they have papers saying that can stay, live and work in US but they are still protected by the Constitution. I was born here and your telling just because I "look" like I might not be, that the police have a right to harass me. People saying that she has no right to say anything because she is not from here is stupid, that's like saying we weren't German so who are we Americans to say that Hitler was wrong about the Jews. Wrong is wrong and no matter where your from, people should always be against that.

Who is the real criminal?
I support you Shaki and there's a way to go..History speaks by itself and you stated something very important....people will never be pleased...everyone speaks thinking on his/her own interests first....yes some of those illegal have brought pain and suffering to many families but we cannot judge all the illegals equally...and if it comes to educate..who the real criminals are...no just illegal are sex offenders or the ones committing other felonies...who has forgotten Oklahoma City Bombing...Columbine High School massacre...and the list can continue...Where those illegal immigrants..I guess that it should be everyone's homework to take a look to history and find out who the real criminals are...way to go Shaki...it's your right to speak...and let's keep trying to be part of the solution instead of the problem...Blessings!!!

Break Laws then pay price???
We are great fans of both your dancing and vocal skills. Yes we think you are great woman. My wife and I just got legal VISA to USA for her. We paid PRICE IN DOLLARS and TIME. We lived in Bogota for 8 months so we could apply for VISA via USA embassy there. She is from Cartagena Colombia and I am from USA. So now you think "swim the river , don't pay taxes in USA, get free health care, etc. so these Mexicans should be allowed or rather preferred into USA over others?". We think you are being commercial and shallow in your behavior. Sorry but you are very very wrong.
She believes in law and order is part of what made USA great. Personal rights under law creates order and economic value. Do we give all this away to few million Mexicans who broke many laws? Sorry send back ALL, fill out forms, pay fees and demonstrate orderly behavior. Mexicans have NO Preferred Right to USA ahead of Colombians or French or Germans. What do you say?

AZ
First of all, people it is racism what they are doing... they can't just stop someone because of the color of the skin, that is called RACISIM... my husband is half caucasian and half bolivian... he looks completely Latino... he is darker then me and I am full colombian... he was born in the us so he does not have any documentation to carry with him when he drives. If they were to stop him, and the cop just "felt" like he was an illegal imigrant, he could take him to jail because there is no way for my husband to proof to the cop that he is a citizen... so it is racism....
Second of all, illegal immigrants do pay taxes (not all of them) but a lot of them do... and the fact that you are saying that you are tired of paying for their living here is such a lie.. they can't get any government benefits just because of that BECAUSE THEY ARE ILLEGAL... the government would find out and they would have to leave.. so they don't get welfare... don't be so ignorant...
These are still human beings and they are only trying to have a better life... most of you don't have the slightest clue of what these people go through just to get a better life...
And if you suggest that they wait until they have the approved documentation... well that's just the problem isn't... they can't get it... cause the government won't give it to them... I have been in this country for 10 years... I came with legal paper... visa, passport... the whole deal... got approved for my residency... 10 years later... and I have just recently (like 2 months ago) gotten the approval to get my citizenship... after 10 years... and it wasn't cheap... most of these people can't afford a lawyer to work their cases... so come on people... lets be a little bit more humane here and think about these people as people... who deserve the same right that we have... to live free....

Why?
Shakira,
Please, please, please do not come to Arizona again and make the comments you made. I am not going to insult you as others have here by saying you ar not a citizen so you have no right to speak, But I am going to say that you should not speak until you have completely educated yourself on the whole issue instead of just a small portion which was fed to you by politicians trying to promote themselves and could care less about how it hurts or effects you.
You made a comment about how th constitution of the United States is there to portect all citizens, but left out the fact that you have to be a legal citizen to be under that protection.
You also obviously did not read the new law because you misquoted and either lied or just didn't educate yourself to th facts to know better about what the law truly says. Please don't do that again.
You need to understand the terrible hardships we are suffering here in Arizona because of the criminal eliment portion of the illigal aliens. We have child rapists, murders killing or citizens and police officers, home invasions, car accidents by people with no legal right to drive and no insurance which is causing terrible hardships on the people they hit and the list goes on and on.....
We are not saying that we do not want our wonderful hispanic community here in Arizona. We just want all to be legally here so that each and every person is accountalbe and held responsible for their actions. This way each person here is held responsible under the law equally and those laws are enforable. As it stands now, the ones who are here illigally who break the law are almost never held accountable because they are untracable.
Please give our police force some credit and a chance here to prove they are good decent people (many of them hispanic themselve) who will not be running around pulling people off the streets like you said. And please don't ever throw it in the face of good people wanting to make a change that you stand there without your papers as well. It is federal law that you spit on there when you said that Shakira and it has been since the 1940's. It was an insult to me as an America citizen and your comments here were an insult to me as an Arizonian just rying to servive here.

IMMIGRATION FEVER
First of all, Hola Shakira!
Hey, without been disrespectful, I would like to express myself. I love this country like my own, but some people that lack of common sense make this country look bad. American fill their mouth saying that this country is build up with a constitution who first admentmen is FREE OF SPEECH!!! and they are the first on proof it wrong. Second, to find out why Shakira get involve in this "stupid law" you will first has to know a little about her background. Third, I will not going to drive around with my greencard because stupid people in the government with the IMMIGRANT FEVER want to take US out of this country.
How many "white" or "american" you see on the restaurants cleanning the restrooms, or cooking your food? Or, how many "white" you see building house? Did you know this country will fall on piece if we take Latinos out of this country?
I almost forgot... WHO TELL YOU THAT SHAKIRA NEED YOU TO BE WHERE SHE IS AT RIGHT NOW? we are too many ILLEGALS that she do not even need you to buy just one CD. We are like the sand on the beach and Americans are just like a gold dollar on the sand... it is really hard to find one!! she did not need you.
Hopefully nothing bad happen to you because I am sure that the doctor you will see is going to be a latino. You know why? because we are better, we did not let social security to pay or bills and we did not fill our mouth saying that " LATINOS ARE STILLING OUR JOBS" that is a stupid excuse. Stop been ignorant and get out of your couch!! find a job and shut your mouth.
Finally, my respect to shakira, I am from Panama and I am so proud of where you have take the latinos!!! As soon as I finish my career as a M.D I will be helping everybody just like you. I will probably still and "stupid, lazy white" job position... I am sorry but I am not sitting on my couch waiting my social security check!!

Shakira is great!
Her dad was born in the U.S.A from Immigrants that came here just like many of your Family's generations...I'm sure not all came here legally back then either. I realize that the Immigration needs to be control it needs a solution but this law is not it. Now Hispanics or even Asians or Arabics who are also Citizens of this country like myself are going to be stopped (yes for now only in Arizona). yes because this law states for a"reasonable Suspicion". if it was for breaking a traffic law then why do they need this new law since they can already stop people for that???. They are going base on looks...The tan, darker latinos, asians, etc. A white illegal most likely will never be bother. Plus in the Constitution it also states this:
Now, Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction.
Article 1.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Article 2.
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.
Article 3.
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

SHAME ON YOU SHAKIRA
When Shakira stated "that I am pretty much undocumented" is absolutely ridiculous. She came to our country with documents. When entering into the United States legitimately you must show your passport, which Shakira certainly did. By challenging Arpaio to come and get her because she left her passport at her 5 star hotel clearly indicates Shakira does not understand the Arizona Senate Bill 1070. By Shakria not carrying her passport or identification does not mean she will be arrested. One must engage in illegal activity to be arrested and asked for identification, which most likely Shakira will not be engaging in illegal activity. For someone to rally other individuals without fully understanding the SB 1070 is irresponsible. People (including Shakira) need to take the time to fully understand the law before grand standing to an audience who expects her to be informed. Shakira should respect the United State's freedom of speech and should be fully educated on the law before leading an emotional charged crowd. This law is not new, it is enforcing what is already in place by the Federal Government. It is a Federal crime to be an illegal alien thus the term "illegal alien." Crime has become an increasing problem in Arizona. The law is designed to punish criminals for being criminals not for being illegal immigrants. Which all members of our community should embrace. If the Federal Government would take illegal immigration seriously there could be alternatives for this law. But the Federal Government ignored Arizona's immigration problem and decided they could not rely on the Federal Government for help. Arizona's actions are directed against the members of the immigrant community that are criminals. Anyone, citizen or non-citizen, should agree that the increased violence around our boarders needs to be addressed. Immigrants and citizens need to work together to reduce crime. Shakira is raising unnecessary fear, Arizona should sue her. Shame on you Shakria for further inflaming a passionate subject that should be addressed rationally. Shame on you everyone else for not educating yourself on the SB 1070.

vegas lady
after reading all the comments,i will leave mine. i am still a fan of shakira's but i have to agree with everyone she has no right to voice her opinion as she is not an american citizen and she does not have any knowledge about what goes on in our country. i have watched so many people struggle to get their citizenship and some fail the first time because their english was not that good.my mother was from germany and had problems, but she got her citizenship legally. as to the person below i can call myself an american citizen because my father was cherokee indian. now the main issue:GO AZ for having the gumption to enact this law. our governor needs to do this also. i see these illegals do the same stuff here in vegas that they do in AZ.as for those comments about they do jobs that americans won't do,ha! i clean rooms for one of the casino hotels here in vegas and so do other americans.i have cooked in restaurants, worked in a nursing home, sewed curtain and bedspread ruffles in a sewing factory and to me one of the dirtiest jobs, worked in a chicken processing plant. don't say this american and the others that worked by my side won't do these jobs. shakira keep up the awesome music, but stay out of american politics.

NRJ Awards: Je Laime à Mourir (live)
Dear Shakira, I hope you had a wonderful day. Your amazing and most beautiful ballad 'Antes de las seis' inspired my first novel - a beautiful love story. It features your music and my dream is to share it with you and if the stars align I hope to get your blessing to publish. The story seemed to come to me as gift from the heart - your beautiful song the driver. Best wishes, hopefully when the book is complete (soon) I can figure out how to make this book a reality. Have a beautiful day, Kim
